Rev. Jesse Jackson Jr., pastor of the East Sixth Street Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church, was recently sworn-in as chairman of the Oklahoma county Democratic Party.
He won election to the post over two other candidates.
“My priorities will include mending relationships after a competitive primary season, raising money, recruiting good candidates and winning races,” Rev. Jackson said.
He said it’s sometimes true that being “a good person is not the same as being a good candidate.”
“Sometimes,” he said, “in politics as in the church, we fill spots with warm bodies.”
“While we are grateful for nice people, they need to be able to run good races and win them,” the county party chairman added.
