STILLWATERThe former congressman who now owns a large lobbyist organization in Washington will be the speaker at next month’s annual banquet of the Veterans Entrepreneurship Program.
Former U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts Jr. (Rep., Okla.) will speak at the 6:30 p.m. event set for Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City.
He will address the graduates of the entrepreneurship program.
After serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and rising to become the fourth-ranked member of the Republican leadership team, Mr. Watts did not seek reelection in 2004.
He is chairman of J.C. Watts Cos., and provides leadership to the company’s business partnerships and ventures, a statement said.
The lobbyist firm is also a public affairs company.
Mr. Watts serves on the boards of directors of the John Deere Corp., WellsFargo, NASCAR, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Clear Channel Communications and Dillard’s Department Stores.
He is a regular analyst on CNN and writes a syndicated column.
